Shoutout to the Boyfriend for the best Valentine’s Day date. Let me preface this date with a story: I’ve been trying to get this guy to go skating with me for the past eight years. He went once in third grade and it was disastrous. Apparently more time was spent on his butt than on skates and he never wanted to go again. I’m not a skating aficionado by any means, but I went fairly often as a child and always loved it. So imagine my dismay every time he would weasel his way out of going when I suggested it. Okay, back to the present.
For Love Day this year, he got me a pair of ice skates! We came across them in DICKs Sporting Goods one day last month and I jokingly gushed about how I needed them. I mean, how else was I going to start my journey to Olympic gold? Well call me Michelle Kwan cause it looks like my dreams are about to come true.
Going ice skating with your significant other doesn’t seem like that big of a deal, but it meant a lot to me. Novel experiences are far and few in between when you’ve been dating for eight years. Helping him learn how to glide took a long time and a lot of hand holding, but by the end of our session he was able to skate without me or the wall. So proud. We ended the night cooking dinner together and enjoyed our unexpected snowed-in sleepover.
